What is a DJ?
The word "DJ" originally stands for "Disc Jockey".
The classic meaning of the word "DJ" is just someone who plays recorded music for an audience.
There are two ways of DJing...
You can DJ the classic way (this requires several skills to master) or you can DJ the Virtual way (A much more basic way of DJing which requires a laptop). The classic way of DJing is where you combine two songs that are playing into one-another manually. This is called Beat-Matching. You can also use a software on a laptop which is much more basic as the majority of the beat-matching is done automatically for you.
